The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a letter to the National Board of Revenue (NBR), seeking a waiver of all taxes on the 20 lakh doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines to be received as a gift from the government of India, a senior NBR official said.
A letter signed by Touhid Imam, senior assistant secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been sent to the NBR chairman to waive all taxes on the vaccine.
According to the letter, the government of India will provide 20 lakh doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid- 19 vaccines as a gift to the government of Bangladesh.
The issue is very important nationally and in the public interest, therefore, necessary steps need to be taken to waive all taxes and duties on the shipment, the letter reads.
Around 20 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine will arrive in Bangladesh from India on Wednesday by a special flight.
